Porto Alegre, Brazil – September 25, 2025: Skateboarding history was rewritten on the streets of Porto Alegre as legendary Brazilian skateboarder Sandro Dias defied age, physics, and fear to break two Guinness World Records™ in one breathtaking stunt. In the much-anticipated Red Bull Building Drop, the 50-year-old Red Bull athlete turned an urban legend into reality by transforming the Centro Administrativo Fernando Ferrari (CAFF) building into the world’s ultimate skate ramp.

The Historic Descent

From a height of 70 meters—equivalent to a 22-storey skyscraper—Dias executed a drop-in that few would dare to imagine. Reaching a blistering 103.8 km/h in just eight seconds, he not only set the record for the tallest skateboard drop-in but also claimed the title for the fastest speed on a skateboard down a quarter pipe.

For decades, locals in Porto Alegre joked that the CAFF building resembled a giant skate ramp. Memes, spoof videos, and fingerboard recreations kept the fantasy alive. On September 25, 2025, Dias brought that fantasy to life, completing what many called “the impossible ride.”

“This was a dream of more than 13 years,” said Dias after the feat. “The most important message I want to share is: never give up on your dreams. Skateboarding has always been about pushing limits, and today we’ve proven that again.”

Preparation Behind the Madness

Pulling off a stunt of this magnitude required ten months of intense preparation. Dias trained with a 40kg weighted vest on modified mega ramps to simulate extreme G-forces. He also hit 136 km/h in speed tests on airport runways to prepare his body and mind for the rapid acceleration.

Safety was paramount. Engineers installed plywood overlays along the building’s façade to create a smooth rideable surface, reinforced with MotoGP-style air fences and a pit of 1,800 foam cubes at the ramp’s end. Dias wore a full-face helmet and spine protector, gear rarely seen in skateboarding but necessary for a stunt of this magnitude.

At the peak of his descent, Dias endured a force of 3.9g, momentarily weighing the equivalent of 280kg as the ramp pushed back against him.

Age Is Just a Number

For many athletes, age 50 signals the twilight of a career. For Dias, it was the launchpad to new heights. Known as one of skateboarding’s true pioneers, Dias was the first to land the 900-degree spin at the X Games in 2005 and has gold medals and Hall of Fame nominations to his name.

“This wasn’t about fame—it was about proving what’s possible for skateboarding as a whole,” Dias explained. “I think this achievement brings visibility and opportunities for the sport worldwide.”

Legends React

The global skateboarding community erupted with admiration. Ryan Sheckler, a mentee and longtime friend of Dias, praised him: “He’s always been pushing the limits—higher and faster than everyone else. At 50 years old, to make this a reality shows the true skate in his heart.”

Skateboarding icon Tony Hawk also hailed the achievement: “The history of skateboarding keeps progressing, and Sandro just jumped ahead about five times further than anyone thought possible. This proves we can always go bigger.”

More Than Just a Record

The Red Bull Building Drop wasn’t just a stunt—it was the realization of a cultural myth and a celebration of skateboarding’s future. Backed by Red Bull and Prada Linea Rossa, the feat fused extreme sports innovation with style, safety, and global visibility.
