Max Verstappen Overtakes 100 Karts In Just 14 Laps In Red Bull’s ‘Max Vs 100’ -

Silverstone: Four-time Formula 1 World Champion Max Verstappen delivered a remarkable karting performance at Silverstone, overtaking all 100 of his challengers in Red Bull’s “Max vs 100” event.

Starting from the 101st and final position, Verstappen cleared the entire field in just 14 laps, completing the challenge with around 35 minutes still on the clock. The event was staged on a temporary karting configuration at Silverstone designed specifically to accommodate the 100-kart field.

The massive grid featured Red Bull athletes, players, content creators, streamers, journalists and fans from around the world, with Verstappen starting behind all 100 competitors.

Chaos from the opening lap

The opening lap immediately turned into a battle through heavy traffic.

Max Verstappen had already overtaken more than 10 drivers before reaching the start line. At the hairpin, several karts collided and ended up facing the wrong direction.

Within two minutes, Max Verstappen had climbed from P101 to P37, while 63 drivers had already been eliminated without completing a lap. Under the event rules, a driver was eliminated once the rear of Verstappen’s kart drew level with the front of theirs.

As the race progressed, the field began to spread out. Pole-sitter Jacky Martens, YouTuber Zac Alsop and Red Bull Ford Powertrains technician Lewis Osler established a lead of around 12 seconds.

Verstappen, however, was steadily closing the gap, taking approximately three seconds per lap out of the leaders. He eventually passed Alsop and Osler in one corner before overtaking Martens to complete the challenge.

Verstappen records fastest lap

Verstappen also set the fastest lap of the race, recording a 2:20.673.

Martens posted the next-best time of 2:23.327, more than 2.6 seconds slower. Across the approximately 35-minute run, Verstappen averaged a pass every 21 seconds.

Martens finished second, with Osler completing the podium. Alsop finished fourth, followed by Red Bull off-road motorcycle athlete Pol Tarres.

The remainder of the top 10 featured livestreamer RDJavi, photographer Larry Chen, mountain biker Bernard Kerr and actor Neo Yau.

A global karting spectacle

Every kart was equipped with onboard cameras and microphones, allowing viewers to follow the action and Verstappen’s radio exchanges with the other drivers.

The event was presented by BAFTA Award-winning comedian Mo Gilligan and streamed globally on Disney+, with the ESPN App and ESPN2 also carrying the event for U.S. audiences.

Race Director and track designer David Terrien said the scale of the field created a unique challenge, noting that no karting race had previously featured such a large number of karts.

Terrien highlighted Max Verstappen’s ability to identify openings in traffic before they fully developed, describing it as a form of race vision that distinguishes him from most drivers.

For Verstappen, the experience was also a return to the fundamentals of racing.
