The Michelin Le Mans Cup is an international endurance racing championship affiliated with the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO), the organisation behind the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans. Established in 2016, the championship provides an important platform for amateur and emerging drivers to compete in professional endurance racing and develop towards higher levels of the sport.
Unlike the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Michelin Le Mans Cup consists of shorter endurance races held at major European circuits. The championship features both prototype and production-based GT3 machinery, placing a strong emphasis on driver changes, tyre management, pit-stop strategy, consistency and reliability.
Ajith Kumar on the Le Mans Cup Grid
Indian actor and motorsport enthusiast Ajith Kumar is competing in the 2026 Michelin Le Mans Cup in the LMP3 Pro/Am category. He is driving the No. 16 car for Ajith RedAnt by Virage, alongside French driver Romain Vozniak.
The team competes with a Ligier JS P325, one of the prototype cars used in the LMP3 category. LMP3 represents one of the key entry points into modern prototype endurance racing and is designed to provide drivers and teams with experience of the demands associated with longer-distance sportscar competition.
Ajith’s participation adds another chapter to a racing career that has developed across multiple forms of motorsport. After competing in racing championships earlier in his career, he returned to competitive motorsport at a higher level, moving into GT and prototype racing.

Vijay ceremonially waved the green flag at Silverstone, officially signalling the start of the race. The Michelin Le Mans Cup highlighted his presence as part of its support for the Indian drivers competing at the event.
The appearance brought together two prominent figures from Tamil Nadu at one of the world’s most recognisable motorsport venues — Ajith Kumar as a competing endurance racer and C. Joseph Vijay representing Tamil Nadu at the international event.
The moment also drew attention to the growing interest in motorsport in Tamil Nadu and India, particularly around the development of racing infrastructure, driver talent and opportunities for Indian competitors on the international stage.
Following the event, Ajith spoke positively about Vijay’s presence and his interest in sports development. He also expressed hope that Chennai could eventually have a major racing facility comparable to Silverstone.
