Pune, May 18: India’s top-ranked Kudo athlete Sohail Khan is set to return to national competition as he prepares to compete in the 4th Kudo National Championship Cup 2026-27, scheduled to be held in Pune, Maharashtra, on May 20 and 21.
The championship, to be hosted at the Netaji Subashchandra Bose Boys’ Military School & Junior College, will feature some of the country’s finest Kudo athletes across multiple age categories. The Sub-Junior and Junior competitions are slated for May 20, while the Senior category bouts will take place on May 21.
All eyes will be on Sohail Khan, who will compete in the -250 PI category, as the decorated martial artist looks to add another title to his already remarkable career.
Sohail enters the championship with an impressive record and reputation, currently ranked World No. 12, Asia No. 4, and India No. 1 in Kudo. Widely regarded as one of India’s most accomplished Kudo practitioners, the fighter has consistently delivered standout performances on both domestic and international platforms.
A 22-time National Champion, Sohail has established himself as a dominant force in Indian Kudo. His recent achievements have further elevated his stature in the sport. Last year, he scripted history by winning a silver medal at the Kudo World Cup in the senior category, a landmark feat for Indian Kudo. He also became the first Indian athlete to secure a bronze medal at the prestigious Eurasian Cup in Armenia, further underlining his international credentials.
Behind Sohail’s rise has been the steady support of his coaching team and mentors. His journey has been shaped by the guidance of Mehul Vorra, Head Coach of Kudo India, along with his personal coach Dr. Mohammad Aijaz Khan, Head Coach of Kudo Madhya Pradesh, both of whom have played instrumental roles in his development and competitive success.
Speaking ahead of the national championship, Sohail emphasized the significance of the upcoming event, both from a competitive and personal standpoint.
“This tournament is going to be a very important one for me. Sometimes everything is not in our hands—what remains in our hands is our hard work, discipline, and how we face situations,” Sohail said.
The Indian star also expressed his excitement about returning to action after a lengthy break from national competition.
“I am excited to compete once again at the national championship. After more than six months, I will be participating in a national-level event. Every tournament is important because it gives you an opportunity to improve, face challenges, and continue learning,” he added.
With the championship set to attract top talent from across the nation, Sohail’s participation adds significant weight to the event. His presence will not only raise the competition level but also inspire younger athletes aiming to make their mark in the rapidly growing combat sport.
As one of India’s most decorated Kudo athletes, Sohail Khan heads into Pune with momentum, expectation, and the hunger to continue his pursuit of excellence on both national and global stages.
